Assignment 4
Industry Interview & Internship Pitch
Objective
Make real-world contact with the creative industry. You will interview a local graphic design firm or company and pitch yourself as a free intern for the following semester. This assignment builds professional networking skills, interview experience, and self-promotion confidence.
Part 1: Research & Outreach
- • Identify a local graphic design firm, studio, agency, or company with an in-house design team
- • Research what they do, their clients, and the work they are known for
- • Contact them professionally (email or phone) to request a short interview
- • Be polite, clear, and flexible with their schedule
Part 2: The Interview
Prepare at least 5 questions. Suggested topics include:
- • How did the firm get started?
- • What software and tools does the team use daily?
- • What skills do they look for when hiring designers?
- • What does a typical project workflow look like?
- • What advice do they have for students entering the industry?
Part 3: The Internship Pitch
During or after the interview, promote yourself as a free intern for the following semester. Your pitch should include:
- • A short introduction of who you are and what you are studying
- • The skills and software you can offer
- • Your availability and willingness to learn
- • Why you want to intern specifically with their firm
- • A copy of your resume or portfolio link to leave behind
Submission Requirements
Submit a written report that includes:
- • The name and background of the firm you interviewed
- • Your interview questions and a summary of their answers
- • A reflection on what you learned
- • A copy of the internship pitch you delivered
- • The outcome (did they accept, decline, or consider your offer?)
Final Goal
Gain real industry exposure, practice professional communication, and create a genuine opportunity for yourself by securing an internship for next semester.
