One major project, broken into deliverables

Major Project: Make Something You Care About
This term centers on one self-directed project, developed in four loose stages. The emphasis is Experiment → Discover → Develop → Finish, not Research → Brief → Proposal → Execute. Each deliverable below moves you closer to a finished piece.

Deliverable 1

Pick Something
upcoming

Choose something you actually want to make. If you're excited about it, it's probably a good project.

  • Pick one thing to make: a poster, character, logo, T-shirt, package, zine, room/environment, short animation, website, album artwork, a weird object, a fictional brand, or something completely different.
  • Write one or two sentences about what you want to make and why it excites you. That's the whole brief — no formal proposal required.

Due: Oct 1, 2026

Deliverable 2

Play
upcoming

The heart of the project. Collect, sketch, photograph, collage, experiment, and make bad versions. Ideas come from making.

  • Make 10 things. They don't have to be good, and they don't have to match.
  • Try something weird. Try something obvious. Try something you don't know how to do.
  • Keep everything — the messy attempts are the point.

Due: Oct 30, 2026

Deliverable 3

Mid-Way Show & Tell
upcoming

Bring your work to class — sketches, prints, photos, models, collages, printed screenshots, experiments, or prototypes. Just bring something we can see.

  • Answer four questions: What am I making? What have I tried? What do I like? What's not working?
  • Then: What should I try next?
  • You don't need to have everything figured out yet.

Due: Nov 12, 2026

Final Deliverable

Make the Thing
upcoming

After the Show & Tell, choose a direction and develop it into your final piece. Experiment → Discover → Develop → Finish.

  • Submit the finished project along with a process journal / process board.
  • The process board can hold whatever helped you make it: photos, sketches, screenshots, inspiration, notes, failed attempts, colour and material tests, things you changed, and feedback you received.
  • No minimum number of pages, no written brief, and no formal reflection required.
